I don’t understand why contemporary builders no longer emphasize front porches. Perhaps it’s because people spend more of their time watching TV and less of their time watching the world go by their front door….

front porches are essential! trying to remember where I was reading about the change in design from emphasizing fronts-of-houses to emphasizing patios and behind-the-house space, and how this has contributed to the changing ways that neighbors interact. . . well, you get the drift.
oh… this looks like a most beautiful place. quiet. and just looking at the photograph, it’s almost as though you can feel the sun as it softly touches on the skin, you can smell the air as a breeze passes on by…
and i agree, these are those little things that are sometimes forgotten these days…
how true. how true.
you’ll have to tell me about your roses. i just started my attempt at gardening last year. and the roses became my true love. especially the lion’s heart and the aphrodite. but then there’s my dame de coeur and my paris charme, my miss dior and my augusta louisa.
i like to think there’s the one or other treasure that will find its way to my veranda and my garden this year too…
there’s something just as precious about the rose itself, as the name that bears the rose…
