  • all the pretty roses

all the pretty roses, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

Picture: a close-up of a cluster of bright pink roses.

These roses are from the garden at the Musee Rodin in Paris. CatGirl snapped this photo while John and I were relaxing on a nearby park bench.

It’ll be just a few more days until the buds on my rosebushes open. I can’t wait! :)

I love how the bits of pollen clinging to the one of the stamens of the top flower look like an eye.

There is just so much to see in one ‘simple’ flower. :)

  • searchin’

So either later today or early tomorrow, look for the BIG announcement of the winners from the pilgrimgirl survey contest. I’m so excited to choose the winners! :)

And in the meantime, this brief post to give you something to think about today….

–Someone in Egypt typed the following search term this weekend and hit my blog: “in photos how to gag a woman.” Don’t even want to know why anyone would search on such an awful topic. IMO, it’s one thing to search for porn (yuck), it’s a whole separate issue when people are searching for ways to improve their torture skills. I’m feeling a bit sick to my stomach right now.

–some other interesting searches that recently brought people to pilgrimgirl:
    Jana in bed
    great mormon handmade christmas gifts
    this is hell
    hairy armpit women photos
    former temple mormon book autobiography
    walk by faith tattoo
    words for feminists
    stories women onelegged crutches sex
    temple dresses

Picture: a close-up of a marigold flower with drops of water on its petals.

One of my favorite parts of each day is my morning walk to my garden. I water my plants and get reacquainted with everything. I revel in the warm sun and enjoy the ways that the plants change incrementally each day. I have a few routines that include searching for strawberries, calculating how many new blossoms are on the peach tree, dead-heading the marigolds, trying to guess how many more days until my roses’ first blooms, and sitting in the chair near the lavender and inhaling deeply.

This year I’ve planted more oranges, golds, and yellow flowers than every before. I love how the bright flower faces greet me and make me smile. :)

What are your morning routines? What do you wish you could do each morning to get the day started off on the ‘right foot’?(note: all of my days start on the left foot, but that’s okay, too. It may explain quite a bit, really….)

Got many of my vegetable plants in this past weekend. This is my first year growing my own tomatillos. Can you tell that I’m thrilled? :)

Fuschias are so picturesque–they are almost too elegant, too pretty to look “real.”

The best part about this photo, though, isn’t the flower itself. Look closely at the base of the white petals–see those two little rascally aphids down there? :)

This is a wee strawberry blossom. Can’t wait to see it bear fruit (yum!).

Today my lil’ sister complimented me on my photos. That is high praise, indeed, coming from an artist like she is–a painter, quilter, and decorator. Yesterday I ordered some prints of my garden pics for hanging in the groovy frames that John picked up for me at Ikea last week. :)

    self-portrait, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

Just got back from the gym this morning and was feeling strong and proud of myself. Strong enough to try taking a few self-portraits…

Can I just say how hard this is? To look at myself and not see an image full of flaws? To think positive thoughts about this aging and scarred body that I inhabit?

So this is me in my favorite gym top (I think it makes my arms look extra muscle-y). I am wearing a necklace that I made myself a few weeks ago (I just love it). And I am feeling brave enough to share this photo with you. Closing my eyes as I finish this entry and taking a deep breath as I push the “post” button.

    World, this is me.

Just a wee bit of alyssum from my garden. In a lovely little blue vase. :)
