  • all better

So CatGirl came to me with a worried look on her brow. She held out her finger towards me.

“It’s a leaf cut–like a paper cut, but from the edge of a leaf.”

Sure enough, I could see a small cut at the joint of her second finger. She squeezed it a bit and a bright smear of blood showed.

    “It really burns.”

“Ok, we’ll leave for home soon. It’s getting dark anyways…”

I resumed my gardening task and CG went up to the spigot to wash her hand.

She returned a few moments later, so proud of her garden bandage: a soft ‘cloth’ of lambsear tied with a sprig of Mexican sage.

    “It feels better now.”

  • berries (and chocolate!)

dark chocolate is sexy, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

It occurred to me yesterday morning, as I was squealing with delight at the absolute perfect ‘strawberry-ness’ of a fresh strawberry that I was eating after washing it off with the garden hose, that I wish I could have the whole world in my garden tasting berries along with me. I can’t imagine that hate and war could continue in the face of such goodness.

Ditto for a good bar of super dark chocolate….

I’m just enjoying my sunflowers so much this year! I took this photo at dusk yesterday just as my camera was running out of battery power, which resulted in the rather odd lighting, I think.

  • steamy

To say that it was steamy this afternoon would be an understatement. You can tell by the hair plastered to our foreheads in this photo that lunch at a steamy ramen shop might not have seemed the smartest choice for a mushi atsui SoCal afternoon.

This was taken the last time a Harry Potter book was released. Can you tell we’re getting excited about book #7? :)

Photo: Closeup of a bright pink zinnia flower

Last night I was up most of the night with semi-awful phantom pains. Not so bad that I was screaming (which happens occasionally), but bad enough that my hip and leg were spasming at regular intervals and keeping me from sleeping soundly. So I am a bit tired and a bit testier than usual today (that, coupled with the realization at 4 am that I’d left the water running when I was soaking a friend’s garden yesterday evening, grrrr–but fortunately when I got out there early this morning I found that another gardener had turned off the water for me! whew).

So, I went out to the garden much earlier than usual this morning. And it’s an overcast day and just perfect for toodling around out there. So I picked a passle of tomatoes, cut some flowers, pulled weeds, and just enjoyed watching the dew drip from the leaves of the plants. It was just what I needed after a very long and uncomfortable night.

In all of its weedy glory. This is the view over the gate and to the left. You can see some tomatoes, squash, peppers, etc.

  • cherry

pink & green, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

These bright flowers are ‘cherry’ nasturtiums. They are a neon pinky-red color, though the lighting in this photo shows them as a paler pinkish hue. They bring me joy every time i walk in my front door, where they bubble out of their huge pot and send trailers up the wall and across the sidewalk…

Went on a short trip to my favorite plant nursery today. Today I was feeling like bright pink, red, and yellow. I chose a few new flowers for the garden, including this one!
