Our first home in Salt Lake City (on Williams Ave near Liberty Park). I mowed the lawn each week with GameBoy riding on my back. Then we would lay in the grass under the trees and find pictures in the clouds. We made friends with the ubiquitous box elder beetles and watched lightning storms from the front porch while our neighbor serenaded us on his guitar.

Cute! So, which side was yours? The one with the ‘dish’ or the planters? I’m guessing the planters.
That’s a great house. I adore older houses in SLC with porches and big trees…
The planter side! (and there was no dish way back then…)
Alberta: Just as an FYI–so many people at the wedding today remarked on CatGirl’s great skill at the flute–saying that she sounded far more polished than someone who’d only been playing for 2 years! Some of the credit for that goes to you and your great teaching during her first year of lessons! :)
Hi, Jana. Kenga gave me the website for your blog, and I hope it’s OK for me to share. I love the picture of your house – although it doesn’t look like any of my childhood houses architecturally, it does remind me of the places I grew up in upstate New York. The family wedding sounds wonderful, and I’d love to hear the flute sometime!
I grew up just east of Liberty Park, in an area with many cute bungalows like yours. My husband doesn’t quite understand my affection for the home I grew up in, or for the area, but I seriously love that area. I think I would move back there if I could.
Dee:
How fun to have you join in on the blog! One of these days perhaps the kids can bring their instruments to Meeting and share some of their music with Friends. They play so sweetly.

I love the homes in this area of SLC! Though we lived on a lovely street, there are definitely some seedier areas around the Park. Some days I felt a bit nervous walking around on my own and it wasn’t uncommon to see police activity and/or to see needles in the street. That said, it wouldn’t take much convincing at all to get me back there! :)
Thanks Jana. But really she deserves all the credit. She was a great student. If you have any videos of her playing, I’d love to see them!
