I am a bird in hand!
Find your own pose!

This quiz definitely has some interesting questions….I like how it described this ‘bird in hand’ pose: “The experience and wisdom that comes from possessing and then losing love makes Bird in Handers unusually grateful partners, and they revel in the relief of finding themselves in each other’s arms night after night.”

John and I often sleep in a slightly modified version of this pose–usually it happens if I am in the right side of the bed. If I’m on the left, we tend to sleep facing away from each other.

We used to always sleep on the same side of our bed–John on the left, me on the right. Recently, though, we’ve started switching according to who goes to bed first, or who wants to be warmer (the right side of the bed is against the wall and tends to be a tad toastier).

This link will take you to a Japanese site where scientists have attempted to recreate the voice of La Giocondo and her master. Worth listening to, just for the cadence of the the Italian language.

Note: you’ll need to use Internet Explorer to view the site. If you don’t read Japanese, just click on the buttons beneath the images to hear the speech

About Me

About Me

Hi there friend, and welcome to my blog. I started writing on the internet two decades ago. Since then I've started and finished a PhD program, left the Mormon church and became a Quaker, got divorced, remarried, found full-time work in academia, took up rock climbing and outrigger canoeing, and traveled across the globe (China! Belgium! Italy! Chicago! Montana! Portland! Gettysburg! and oh-so-many points in-between). This blog is eclectic and random--it has poetry and cooking and books. And cats. And flowers. And the ocean (my ocean). But in that sense it's a good reflection of me and my wide-ranging, far-reaching, magpie curiosity.
