So I’ve always been fascinated with the way people decorate their personal spaces–not the fake sort of decorating a la Martha Stewart in rooms that are museums rather than living spaces–but the real rooms where people hang out.
When I was in China I often craned my neck around corners to get a glimpse inside the small spaces that held so much life. Here’s a website of 100×100–one hundred 100 square foot abodes in China captured on film. The results are amusing, at times sobering. Perhaps you will, like me, ponder these photos and marvel and the beauty and humility of ‘living small.’
Thanks to wen for this link. A favorite image is below, simply because of the McD’s wrappers hung as crown molding on the far wall….

The subway photos on his site bring back memories…
I love this link. Thank you for sharing. I find myself complaining about my 970 Sq foot house and plan to move to a larger house soon. This helps me appreciate the expansive living area we really have.
Lulu:
We live in less than 800 sq feet: 4ppl, 2 cats and 2,000 books in four very small rooms. Some days it’s blissful and cozy, but it’s rarely tidy. Every once in awhile I ponder what it would be like to have closets entirely devoted to linens (or even to one person’s clothes). More than anything I long for a room with tall windows that face the rising sun. Where plants would thrive and kitties (and humans) could bask in the sunlight.
But for now I’ll continue to enjoy our cave–the little downstairs apartment surrounded by trees that’s shady year-round.
