ABC Meme

from Chris

Accent: A bit of a dipthong from having grown up in Oklaho-oma. Otherwise, pure Californian.

Booze: None, except for great-grandpa’s special-recipe Tahitian vanilla and an occasional serving of Bananas Foster.

Chore I Hate: Picking up after other people.

Dog or Cat: CAT! (specifically, Ellycat and TobyJoy)

Essential Electronics: electical outlet for charging robotic leg, junebug, hot water heater, 1941 Singer sewing machine, dig camera & cardreader, battery charger.

Favorite Perfume(s): Loulou by Cacharel (which I can only afford every once in awhile becuase it has to be imported from Europe); Amber Romance (a cheap Victoria’s Secret Scent)

Gold or Silver: both at the same time (rings are gold, watch is silver-ish).

Hometown: Born in SLC; grew up in Tulsa; high school in Bakersfield, CA.

Insomnia: Really bad while I was a SAHM. Now I fall asleep just about anywhere, anytime.

Job Title: Grad Student, Teaching Assistant, Book Review Editor, etc.

Kids: E & C.

Living arrangements: 3 bedroom apartment. Downstairs in the corner of an 8-family building. Too few windows (it’s a cave).

Most admirable trait: I smile a lot.

Number of sexual partners: Been faithful to John for more than 14 years. :)

Overnight hospital stays: More than I can count–basically one year of serialized hospital stays during hi-dose chemotherapy and following amputation surgery, 2 babies born in hospitals, various small-ish surgeries.

Phobias: Rats and scary men in bathrooms or under beds or in closets, or behind partially-opened doors.

Quote: “Your Mom goes to College” -Napoleon Dynamite

Religion: Mormon, with a twist of Quaker and a splash of Pagan.

Siblings: Five–Older sis in SLC; oldest bro in Oregon; youngest bro in NoCarolina; youngest sis in Riverside, CA. Also, a Japanese foreign exchange student sister that’s been AWOL for the past 8 years (Sachiko–where are you these days??).

Time I wake up: on weekdays, 6:20, then 6:30. On weekends, 8-ish.

Unusual talent or skill: Doing the “wave” with my eyebrows and touching my tongue to my nose.

Vegetable I refuse to eat: I don’t think there is one.

Worst habit: Only screwing lids on jars partways.

X-rays: Way more than I could ever count (due to bone cancer).

Yummy foods I make: Bread, cookies, cakes, pastries. Baked potatoes. Avocado, bell papper & mushroom sandwiches.

Zodiac sign: Gemini. Two-faced.

About Me

About Me

Hi there friend, and welcome to my blog. I started writing on the internet two decades ago. Since then I've started and finished a PhD program, left the Mormon church and became a Quaker, got divorced, remarried, found full-time work in academia, took up rock climbing and outrigger canoeing, and traveled across the globe (China! Belgium! Italy! Chicago! Montana! Portland! Gettysburg! and oh-so-many points in-between). This blog is eclectic and random--it has poetry and cooking and books. And cats. And flowers. And the ocean (my ocean). But in that sense it's a good reflection of me and my wide-ranging, far-reaching, magpie curiosity.
