I was at a Happy Hour party last night with some colleagues at the cafe that’s in the local train depot. One colleague asked me if I’d been to that cafe before. I replied that I hadn’t been inside very often, but I regularly sat outside to watch the trains.
Oops.
Sometimes I get all relaxed and forget to hide my inner nerd. Sometimes I forget that normal people don’t plan their vacations and their lunch hours and their free time around train schedules. :)

“Der Kluge reist im Zuge,” was a famous slogan of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) – or, as it might be put in English: “Those with brain take the train.”
Taking the train in Switzerland is awesome. They have the densest rail network in the world and you can literally set your watch to the schedule.

Ok, I’m going to add that to my must-travel list, now–I love a good train journey! My next ones will probably include the night train from Paris to Venice, the Himalayan Queen in India, the trans-Siberian, the bullet train in Japan, and the West Glacier Amtrak route. :)
Last year I did train trips up and down the California coast and from Brussels to Avignon (then to Paris and London and back to BRU), not to mention riding subway trains in dozens of major metropolitan cities.
