  • headed up that mountain…

Today’s thought brought to you by 37 Days:

There are hundreds of paths up the mountain,
all leading in the same direction,
so it doesn’t matter which path you take.
The only one wasting time is the one
who runs around and around the mountain,
telling everyone that his or her path is wrong.

I don’t know why, but this (and other) retro clips from puberty movies totally fascinate me. Perhaps one of the reasons why (at least of late) is that they actually give more practical information than did my daughter’s puberty talk (aka ‘Mother/Daughter Tea) at her school, and I’ve been wondering why sex ed seems to be becoming a taboo topic?

It’s time for me to get busy again (as if I’m not busy enough!). Meaning, that I’ve taken a few weeks off from schoolwork–a well-deserved break, IMO–and now I need to return to it again. Oh, but I’ll still be spending much time in the garden, I’ll be taking photos, and I’ll certainly have many things to blog about! But it’s time to get out of bed (hmmm….did I mention that I am still in my pajamas–ACK!) and get on with the day and get some things accomplished!

    Happy Friday everyone! :)

  • Pilgrimgirl classic: Our house is a very, very , very fine house…

Just for fun, I’m ‘reprinting’ this classic post from last year. Enjoy! :)

For your viewing pleasure, I’ve created a brief house tour video. This is for all those folks who are shocked/amazed/mortified that our family lives in ~750 sq ft of space. Of course, if we were in Japan, we’d probably have half this space and call ourselves lucky. But here in SoCal, our ‘living small’ lifestyle is definitely an anomaly.

The tour is limited to half of our home, so you’ll miss about five bookshelves (primarily the kiddoes’ books and our magazines and journals). TobyJoy decided not to make an appearance in the show (EllyCat is the star) and John, CatGirl and GameBoy were at school during the tour, so the house is pretty quiet. One note: I mention that the table in the LR is “my desk,” well it’s also the heart of our home. We eat meals, watch movies, play games, read books, pray, and entertain guests around this table. Even as I type this post, John and I are working on our laptops at the table, and CG has a whiteboard that she’s drawing on at the table.

Our home is my very favorite place. There is a lot of love within these walls. It’s not fancy, but it’s home. :)

PS: kudos to John for helping me to compress the video for youtube!
PPS: Did you notice my oh-so-vintage-cool record player?? I’ll play some of my 80s record collection for you the next time you drop by for a cup of tea :)

This is one of the rose blossoms from a type of rose plant that grows abundantly around my garden. I don’t know what it’s called, but it tends to bloom brilliantly once or twice per summer. Luckily it’s in one of its blooming phases right now. :)

I’m a bit late with particiapting in the BADD (it was yesterday). For those who are interested, please read my BADD post at fMh and my various posts on being an amputee.

Picture: A closeup photo of two white jasmine blossoms.

    Happy Mayday my friends!

If you were here with me, I’d cut you a petite bouquet of flowers from my garden. But since we’re only virtual neighbors, you’ll have to feel my good flowery wishes headed to you via cyberspace…

When I was a little girl I remember making paper cones, filling them with flowers, and hanging them on neighbors’ doorknobs. Yet I don’t think my kids have ever commemorated this particular holiday in school. What about you, do you have childhood memories of MayDay? And/Or do you still celebrate it somehow?

Flowers are even better when they’re edible. :)

I’ve discovered that home-grown broccoli has a richer, nuttier flavor than broccoli bought from the store. Yum! :)

  • angel

    cherubic, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

Picture: cherub statue sitting on a wooden bench in a garden. A spray of dark red roses cascading over the top of the statue.

I believe it was CatGirl who rescued this little statue from a trash heap somewhere around the garden. It’s a pretty forlorn looking cherub–both wings are broken off and it’s cracked and dinged in various places. But it still manages to keep watch over the climbing roses and the various flowers sprouting in the center of the garden. From my favorite seat in the garden (on the flagstones by the rosebushes), I have a good view of the angel’s perch. Looking over that way never fails to cheer me.

Today in Meeting someone’s sharing led me to contemplate Fear. For the past few years, I have let go of much of my fear-motivated behavior. I no longer worry much about what lies ahead in my future. I also don’t make choices based on fears of divine reprimand. Though I am still afraid of death, I am no longer afraid of any kind of reckoning or judgment in conjunction with my death.

Instead, I am only afraid that this day will pass I won’t have taken the time to enjoy the beauty of it.

So I will eat my lunch (some garden greens and broccoli) and head for the garden. I have weeds to pull and beans to plant. And I crave time to just be there…feeling the way the wind blows my hair across my shoulders.

These sweet peas are growing in a neighbor’s garden. Today she let me cut a small bouquet, which I placed in a little cup on my nightstand along with a bit of blue cornflower and some mini pink and burgundy roses. My whole room smells so lovely now. :)
