deep thoughts

question

written by Jana March 4, 2009

If you order a pair of pants and they turn out to be just a bit on the small side (as in, they fit and you can breathe, but they are definitely ‘snug’). Do you send them back for a size that would be a bit roomier–maybe even too roomy? Or do you hold on to them with the assumption that you’ll soon lose enough weight for them to fit well?

Send them back. Life’s too short and closets are too small to hold onto tomorrow’s maybe-possibly clothes.

hold onto them—it’s nice to have a goal

I’d normally say send them back, but your body is still adjusting to your heavier exercise regimen. I bet you’ll lose weight and it will be nice to have those pants because they’ll fit right :)

I’d send ’em back, but then I’m 60yo and have given up. You are rowing and active. In other words: no help here.

I’ll just say this:

There are 3 or 4 tubs of clothes in the back of my closet that are “goal” clothes. If/when I ever reach that goal, they will be vintage and/or shredded by moths. If/when I get off my butt and start exercising (oh, how my depression would be slayed by such a move!), the goal may come within reach before the moths descend.

That’s all I have to say.

It depends how great a deal they are. If they are super-cool and not too much money, I might even buy the other pair without returning the first, so I would have them to wear at whatever weight.

Hmmmm…you’re all right. I should have pants that fit me right now (not in the distant future), but I am losing inches right now due to paddling and this will probably increase rapidly once I switch from one practice/week to 3/week.

But of course the pants were a good deal (because I am that kind of thrifty gal), so maybe one pair in each size isn’t a bad call. :)

Still trying to decide….

I’m just waiting to find pants small enough to fit me that aren’t in the juniors department. I’m a grownup now. Pink embroidery on my bum is a no-no.

As a person who hates tight clothing, I would say wear what’s most comfortable. Of course, wearing a pajama top to a Relief Society dinner tonight might have been going too far.

They fit. They’re just showing your body a bit more than you’re used to. I say keep them if it’s not an economic sacrifice.

About Me

Hi there friend, and welcome to my blog. I started writing on the internet two decades ago. Since then I've started and finished a PhD program, left the Mormon church and became a Quaker, got divorced, remarried, found full-time work in academia, took up rock climbing and outrigger canoeing, and traveled across the globe (China! Belgium! Italy! Chicago! Montana! Portland! Gettysburg! and oh-so-many points in-between). This blog is eclectic and random--it has poetry and cooking and books. And cats. And flowers. And the ocean (my ocean). But in that sense it's a good reflection of me and my wide-ranging, far-reaching, magpie curiosity.
