sublime

written by Jana October 2, 2007

Ok, I know I may be in the minority here, but really, can anything be more sublime than watching a vid of John Denver singing with a cute young Japanese guy (John Denver’s highwater pants and blow-dried ‘do notwithstanding)…

“Cute young Japanese guy?” Just wait until John reads that!

Is it my imagination or did they trade off on the harmonies?

Gray: John was sitting next to me as I typed it–begging me to TURN OFF THE SPEAKERS so John Denver wouldn’t be the very last thing he heard before going to bed. Sigh.

As if one could listen to anything more perfect for singing in one’s head as one drifted off to sleep…

That is awesome. Yes, they did trade off on the lead–I’m pretty sure it wasn’t John Denver who was singing about the “ladio leminds me of my home far away.” ;)

The first song to pop up in my iPod was Modest Mouse’s “Bury Me with It.” The retro organ licks and quirky lyrics were enough to scrub my brain of John Denver melodies.

When I was in Japan in the early nineties, “Countly Loads” was inexplicably one of the favorite karaoke choices of Japanese crooners of every age. Another one was “Rub me Tender.”

Gray, since I’m half-Japanese and half-young, one fourth of me lives vicariously in the aforementioned cute young Japanese guy.

I guess that’s assuming that I’m 100% cute…

Yes love, definitely 100% cute. Maybe even 200% cute. :)

And, for the record, just because I think other Asian guys are cute (even a wee bit ‘hot’), it doesn’t detract at all from my unabashed adoration of my own dear spouse.

What a wonderful dialog! You two will surely live long and prosper together.

I am reminded of the amusing site, engrish.com.

About Me

About Me

Hi there friend, and welcome to my blog. I started writing on the internet two decades ago. Since then I've started and finished a PhD program, left the Mormon church and became a Quaker, got divorced, remarried, found full-time work in academia, took up rock climbing and outrigger canoeing, and traveled across the globe (China! Belgium! Italy! Chicago! Montana! Portland! Gettysburg! and oh-so-many points in-between). This blog is eclectic and random--it has poetry and cooking and books. And cats. And flowers. And the ocean (my ocean). But in that sense it's a good reflection of me and my wide-ranging, far-reaching, magpie curiosity.
