not even a mouse

written by Jana December 21, 2007

a mouse in our house, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

Yesterday I went on a Freecycle adventure (with the help of John, my lifter-of-things) and we came home with a lovely new area rug for our bedroom.

Since we acquired our living room rug I’ve been wanting something similar for the bedroom–to add some color and texture to such a simple space. The rug has beiges and greens and blacks, with just a smidge of purple. It looks great with the bed and the overstuffed purple chair in the corner.

EllyCat and TobyJoy aren’t so sure about the new rug, though. Last night they both perched near it, but not on it. As if it was invader in their space. Even placing Elly’s favorite mousy on the rug was no help in enticing her onto it. I might just sprinkle a bit of catnip on it and see if that helps.

A liberal (accidental) sprinkling of catnip on one of our rugs certainly made it Sam’s favorite for some time. Then he carried the catnip sock around enough that the catnip got all over the other rugs, too, so now he has no favorite.

About Me

About Me

Hi there friend, and welcome to my blog. I started writing on the internet two decades ago. Since then I've started and finished a PhD program, left the Mormon church and became a Quaker, got divorced, remarried, found full-time work in academia, took up rock climbing and outrigger canoeing, and traveled across the globe (China! Belgium! Italy! Chicago! Montana! Portland! Gettysburg! and oh-so-many points in-between). This blog is eclectic and random--it has poetry and cooking and books. And cats. And flowers. And the ocean (my ocean). But in that sense it's a good reflection of me and my wide-ranging, far-reaching, magpie curiosity.
