closing that door

pretty in pink, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

Today I had an appointment in the Infectious Disease Clinic. After a thorough exam my doctor gave me a hug and told me good-bye, explaining that I didn’t need to return again unless something went awry with my leg.

When she ushered me out of the exam room she pointed out a different exit door–not the one I usually use that leads me to the receptionist for a new appointment.

That may well be both the first and the last time that particular door will close behind me. Let us hope…

Just one reason why I love the carrots that I buy from the farm down the street from where we live.

morning has broken

perfect pink, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God’s recreation of the new day
~as sung by Cat Stevens

A bright shot of color for your day. Taken in the Huntington gardens on a lunch break earlier this week.

About Me

About Me

Hi there friend, and welcome to my blog. I started writing on the internet two decades ago. Since then I've started and finished a PhD program, left the Mormon church and became a Quaker, got divorced, remarried, found full-time work in academia, took up rock climbing and outrigger canoeing, and traveled across the globe (China! Belgium! Italy! Chicago! Montana! Portland! Gettysburg! and oh-so-many points in-between). This blog is eclectic and random--it has poetry and cooking and books. And cats. And flowers. And the ocean (my ocean). But in that sense it's a good reflection of me and my wide-ranging, far-reaching, magpie curiosity.
