Friends:If you follow me on twitter and Facebook, you already know that the fatal shooting at UCI occurred just outside our apartment. We are all okay, except for that residual emotional trauma that comes from having been so close to such an event. John’s post captures this so well.

Huntington Library, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Just returned from an anniversary weekend celebration with John. It’s so much fun to spend time relaxing and doing things with him! This weekend he took the reins and planned everything–I just showed up and played along. And every moment was chock-full of fun and memories. Coming home wasn’t [...]

girls at the beach, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. CatGirl doesn’t let me take her picture very often anymore. Like a typical teen, she’ll put her hands over her face or turn away when I point my lens in her direction (although she always seems willing to pose for John!)…So I was so thrilled when a [...]

GameBoy’s getting strong., originally uploaded by mind on fire. GameBoy sits in the “engine room” of a coed team boat in this pic, providing the strength for the team. His favorite seat is #1, where he sets the pace for the boat–his training as a musician certainly helps him with this! Yesterday morning I spent [...]

GrandmaB’s funeral, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Grandma would have just loved this. All the pretty roses. Do not watch the petals fall from the rose with sadness, know that, like life, things sometimes must fade, before they can bloom again.~Unknown

DAVSDOTR, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Grandma with her sisters (she’s on the far left). She looks so much like my older sister in the pic that it’s almost uncanny to me. And, oh, aren’t those hairdos something else? PS: I belive that the caption on this photo misspells some of the names. Did I do [...]

so pretty, it hurts a little bit, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. “Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?” –Mary Oliver* Three of my grandparents died when I was fairly young. So for many years my GrandmaB (my kids called her “Candy Grandma,” can you guess why???) was my only grandparent. She passed away this [...]

Originally posted on The Exponent: In my family, each of the women make quilts in preparation for their marriage. My mother’s quilt had a white background with intricate blue and green designs embroidered onto the quilt top. What?, originally uploaded by mind on fire. If our cats had names like those of Snow White’s seven companions, they would be:SilkySleepyandSkittish(or maybe one of them might be “Saggy”) What about your cats? PS: If you ever receive bizarre emails from me, you can be sure that they were sent by EllyCat’s nether regions… PPS: [...]

I mentioned to my sibs that I was using arnica oil to help fade some bruises, and had an email exchange worth sharing: From esteemed scientist Bro: Since I work in a chemical biology department, let me me chime in for a second and remind everyone that just because something is “natural” doesn’t mean that [...]
