Spotted this crane heron while paddling on Saturday and was lucky enough to capture him just taking off (most likely my fault–my boat is nearly 20 ft long and the strong current was carrying me a wee bit close when I snapped this). I've dreamed of getting close enough to see the feathers in that degree of detail… What amazing birds, and what an amazing YOU for having the presence of mind to make this photo! Reply Alli Easley February 3, 2010 - 11:36 pm AWESOME! How cool that you got that close! Reply leisurelyviking February 4, 2010 - 8:38 pm I'm pretty sure that's a heron- the face markings are right, and herons hold their necks back a little in an S-shape when they fly, whereas cranes put their necks straight out. Beautiful picture! Reply catbonny February 5, 2010 - 4:57 pm awesome picture. Reply Leave a Comment Cancel Reply Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email.
