fred, in all his glory, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

Meet Fred, one of the little sapling trees that I planted in the burn area on Saturday. Fred was named in honor of my neighbor Fred Rogers. Next year I can’t wait to see how he’s grown, even though I like him just the way he is.

Growing up I had a Mr. Rogers record of him singing songs, I thought this one was hilarious:

Tree, tree, tree
Tree, tree, tree
Tree, tree, tree
Tree, tree, tree

We love you,
Yes we do,
Tree, tree, tree,
Tree, tree, tree

Man, that looks so weird written out. It was pretty funny sung, too.

Hi, Fred! Gosh you’re pretty!

Alison, the Mr. Rogers song sounds exactly like something I would hum to myself — well, no, to the tree — while planting one. hee hee Kind of Winnie-the-Poo-ish.

We had the Mr. Roger’s songbook at our house, not the record album. I wish I knew that song, though. I would undoubtedly be singing it when I garden!

I do love trees, though my favs tend towards deciduous rather than evergreen.

About Me

About Me

Hi there friend, and welcome to my blog. I started writing on the internet two decades ago. Since then I've started and finished a PhD program, left the Mormon church and became a Quaker, got divorced, remarried, found full-time work in academia, took up rock climbing and outrigger canoeing, and traveled across the globe (China! Belgium! Italy! Chicago! Montana! Portland! Gettysburg! and oh-so-many points in-between). This blog is eclectic and random--it has poetry and cooking and books. And cats. And flowers. And the ocean (my ocean). But in that sense it's a good reflection of me and my wide-ranging, far-reaching, magpie curiosity.
