I wanted to share here an excerpt from a paper that I wrote a few years ago about Borders & Bodies. It may be that this bit of writing makes little sense out of context of the original, much longer, treatise (and I realize that my footnotes lack full citations for each reference–if you’d like [...]

From an interview with author Terry Tempest Williams: “Most of the day I am doing nothing,” she confessed of her writing process. “I am waiting. Writing is a natural process, like evaporation, we might not see it going on but it is happening.” As a writer she keeps a candle lit in her workspace, a [...]

peachy!, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Picture: green peach hanging on a lone branch surrounded by tree leaves. My peaches are still a few weeks from ripeness, but I can hardly wait! This year my dwarf peach tree has gone crazy–so much new growth and so many peaches. Woohoo!

When I was younger I always had such big plans for the summer. This summer I am looking forward to the family reunion and some time with faraway friends. Also [...]

emerging, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Photo: closeup photo of some small daisies. The daisy in focus is just barely opening up its petals. “On [Friday] she woke up and realized that she’d forgotten the definition of the word ‘Impossible.’ She decided that it must not have been important.” ~From The Persistence of Being Yellow: Book [...]

french breakfast, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Photo: a photo of my breakfast last Saturday. A brownish colored softboiled egg sitting in a white ceramic eggcup. The ‘cap’ of the egg is removed and the yolk is showing through. A white mug is in the background. On weekends we enjoy eating French-style around here. John softboils [...]

If you are looking at your left foot and realizing that your smallest toes are the same color as the purple chair that you are sitting on (having dully tripped on a chairleg and broken and/or horribly sprained those particular toes yesterday), and you are feeling glad that you were able to wear a shoe [...]

matched set, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Photo: Closeup shot of two white honeysuckle blossoms. I’m not sure why, but I really like the way the lighting on this photo turned out–how the background is in shadow and the white blossoms contrast with that. Honeysuckle are such oddly-shaped flowers, don’t you think?

mystery flower, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Photo: A close-up picture of a funnel-shaped purplish-pink flower calla lily. This plant recently emerged in the middle of my flower bed. I’m not sure where it came from or what it’s called, as I didn’t plant it and I’ve never seen another like it in the past 5 [...]

honeybright, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl. Picture: Row of three white honeysickle blossoms against a backdrop of blue sky. I love this way this photo turned out. It was a tough one to take–it was really hot outside and bees were annoyed that I was disturbing them as I traipsed around in the honeysuckle vines. The [...]
